The UN has two organisations responsible for refugees. UNRWA and UNHCR. Why UN needs 2 organisations? You can understand it if you learn the differences between the two. Please see the comparison below:
This comparison clear brings us to the following conclusions:
● Palestinian refugees born after 1948 are not refugees if the same criteria used for the rest of the world is applied to them.
● Palestinians receive a disproportionate amount of attention compared to the rest of the world.
● UNRWA extends refugee status to descendants, which perpetuates the refugee issue, leaving the problem unresolved for generations. As stated on UNRWA's own website “Unlike UNHCR, UNRWA does not have a mandate to resettle Palestine refugees and has no authority to seek lasting durable solutions for refugees.”
